Something I find surprising, but has also become a normal occurrence, is bands forming super groups. One such group is THE DAMNED THINGS, which is made up of Keith Buckley (Every Time I Die), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Andy Hurley (Fall Out Boy), Joe Trohman (Fall Out Boy) and newest member Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio). It's been 8 years since their last release and they haven’t lost a step.
A benefit of being part of such a group is being able to make music for the sake of the art. Which can also be noticed on their album artwork. There is no pressure when writing music, each member has more than proven that they can’t write great songs with their each individual band. HIGH CRIMES proves that their debut was just a start of something great and will have a lasting impression on the listener.
It's hard to categorize THE DAMNED THINGS other than being a great rock band with an underlying punk attitude with some throwback to the greats of decades gone. Their most current single Omens further exemplifies their catchy rhythms and a pace set for smiles and raising a drink (if you partake). This 10 song outing has a variety of styles for a broad audience, allowing for numerous instances of getting lost within the notes. None of the songs feel rushed and you can appreciate the subtle handling to make sure a quality product was produced.
I can already imagine myself going to their show with friends, knowing that it will be a great night of music. Now to see if they come my direction.
