Wednesday 13’s new release Necrophaze conjures dark, industrial, horror punk that will bring grim smiles of pleasure. Since we’re just around the corner from Halloween, it hits the perfect mood.
“Heavily influenced by the real life night terror occurrences of Wednesday himself, historical serial killers, and a slew of 80’s horror films”, this album also brings memorable hooks and choruses which you’ll find yourself humming late into the night. Having seen them earlier this year with Static-X , their live performances blends effortlessly with their music, both very entertaining and music to move your body to whether moshing, jumping or banging your head.
Lyrically, songs range from strangling someone to burying a “hatchet in your head”. Amusing to say the least and makes for a good time in jest. One of the songs that has stuck with me is Bring Your Own Blood. The background electronic elements help keep the pace for diabolical dancing and blood bathing.
During the course of the album, the listener is sonically assaulted with auditory imagery of horror acts that will push the limits of those unfamiliar to Wednesday 13. But if you hold your spear steady, you will find layers of great goth horror punk, synth wave undertones and earworms that will keep the blood flowing freely throughout the night.
