As of now the reviews have poured in about JINJER’s new EP MICRO, released on Jan 11, 2019. Instead of breaking down each song, which we all know by now that it kicks ass, let talk about something different. Let’s discuss, even if briefly, the impact they have made and will continue to make in music.
Each member of JINJER has talent in abundance. Roman’s riffing pushes into new territory mixing a new brand of progressive metal utilizing various picking techniques and groove. Vlad’s drumming keeps the punishment going and has quickly become a favorite in which new and old drummers are looking up to, even if enviously. Eugene’s bass layering gives each song a moody undertone adding dimensions and density; makes me want to pick up a bass and pretend to know how to play. Tatiana’s voice is mind boggling. Each song is a poem that contains precious parts of herself. She is pure talent and we are lucky to have her share so much of herself lyrically and emotionally. I can’t think of another vocalist with such diversity, charisma and range.
Together they have created a treasure of music that doesn’t follow the usual song formula. Each song and album has seen them grow by leaps and bounds. And MICRO has set the bar even higher. This EP has been on repeat for me, never losing an ounce of ferocity with each spin. I find myself head banging, even with the volume at its lowest level. Personally, I haven’t been this excited about a band and their music in over a decade. I know that’s a big statement, as big as Texas. Yes, some of you may not agree with me, but that’s ok, we all have our personal tastes.
But you have to admit, JINJER is doing something completely different and infectious, a breath of fresh air to a scene that has been stagnant and suffocating on the same cookie cutter format. They are forging their own path on which I will happily follow. You can either join or move out of the way.
