Violent Life Violent Death are set to release their second album on June 29, 2018 titled Come, Heavy Breath. The band is comprised of Scott Cowan (Vocals), Joseph Benham (Guitar), Joey Park (Guitar), Justin Cambell (Bass) & David Holquin (Drums). Fans of Zao and Every Time I Die will feel right at home listening to chaos pouring out by the fist fulls.
Their recent single Come, Heavy Breath gives the listener a glimpse of what a tornado of emotional turmoil the band is capable of. Given the purposeful images used in the music video, VLVD is not one to shy away from violent topics. At least towards the end, they sprinkle just a small amount of happiness to offset what you just witnessed. Which I know this was intentional to provoke and make the viewer/listener think.
Each song is packed with full blown brutality which just makes you want to open up that circle pit and have some fun friendly destruction. After repeat listens, I have a hard time picking a favorite since each song can stand on its own merit. But one thing is for sure, as soon as the first few bars are strung and the drums bring about a vehement ritual, you know you are in for a beating of a lifetime and you’ll be thankful, even begging for more with your last breath.
The only negative here was that this release was kinda short with only six songs. But then again, after a full listen, I was left spent and needed some time to think about what just happened to my senses and how excited I am that music is finally growing some balls again. It’s been too long since I have heard a band create music that makes me want to jump out of my skin. Kudos guys!
