Thank you so much for your time! We appreciate it!!
Your new album Into The Black Sky came out on May 24, how has the reception been so
It’s been great! After a year of working our butts off on this album, it’s so nice to finally be able to share it! We couldn’t be more proud, and it is wonderful to hear that people are digging it. It’s definitely fun to find out what everyone’s favorites are!
Is there any special meaning with the album title?
It is a lyric in the song ‘Volatile’ but more than that, it is a pretty good representation of our outlook going into making this album and continuing the band, with a new lineup. We didn’t know what to expect or didn’t know exactly how to navigate it, but we went into it with an open mind and into the unknown, because there was no other choice.
Now that the album is done, what are you most excited about?
Getting on the road and playing shows!! Our summer has filled up nicely!
Are there any particular songs that are currently your favorite and why would that be?
That’s so tough! It really is an answer that changes almost every day. One of my favorites right now is ‘In Your Shadow’ — this one is particularly special to me because it is the first song that myself and Collin took the lead on with the writing of vocals. Evan had sent over an instrumental track and gave us the reigns. It was very early on in the process of writing on the album, so I was so excited, but really nervous to see what the rest of the guys thought of our writing style and ideas. So I was stoked when they came back with positive responses. I think at that point, we all had the realization that hey, this is going to work. Plus the message behind that song is pretty empowering, while also a little snarky. Devil in Me is just a blast to play live, so that is definitely on my list as well!
What do you hope to achieve with your music?
We 100% intend to take over the world— (insert laugh here) My goal with music has always been to write songs and perform them in a way that makes people feel something. I can’t even tell you how much music has helped me through some extremely difficult times in my life, and I just hope that our music does that for someone. It’s one of the best feelings in the world for someone to tell you your words, your song or even as general as our band has made a difference in their world.
What would you like people to know about Cold Kingdom’s music?
We are out to write good music that is energetic, with powerful and meaningful lyrics .
What has been the most surprising aspect of being in the music business?
Maybe not surprising, but astonishing to me how awesome the fans are— we truly have the most genuine and loyal supporters out there.
Are there any tours lined up that you can talk about?
This summer filled up pretty quickly. We are doing a lot of weekend warrior runs to start, but the goal is definitely to hop onto a tour or two. Or eight. We also get to do some festival dates this summer, so that is pretty rad! You can find our whole schedule on our website, or facebook. We are constantly updating that!
What do you think about meet and greets and will you be doing any when you tour?
I think meet and greets are great! From a fan perspective, it is so cool to meet bands or artists that you dig. And from a band perspective, it’s awesome to meet fans who appreciate your music, and want to meet you. We get to play shows and do this because of their support! So heck yes, if we get those opportunities, we will definitely take them. We love meeting our fans and hearing their stories.. I don’t think there will ever be a time you don’t see us whooping it up back at the merch table, or just hopping around the venue meeting people.
