Few bands are as capable as Archspire when it comes to producing some delicious technical death metal that rips you apart at the seams. Currently on their Tech Trek IV tour, along with Inferi, Virvum, & Wormhole, Archspire left me in awe by their sheer musicianship and precision. Still touring in support of their latest album Relentless Mutation, which was played in its entirety, this tour is one not to miss if you have any interest in death metal.
Playing second was a band from Zurich, Sweden Virvum. Having never seen them before, I was quite interested in watching them play their progressive atmospheric death metal. And they did not disappoint. They quickly established themselves with the crowd and getting the blood going. I thoroughly enjoyed how guitarist Nic Gruhn and Toby Koelman played within the crowd, giving them up front access to the guitar shredding. Even tho they had a short set, they left a memorable impression with everyone, that people clamored to the merch table.
As headliners, watching Archspire play live is surreal. The speed and brutality displayed by each band member left me whirling with wonder. As I watched drummer Spencer Prewett beat his drums, I was perplexed at how fast he was playing. I had seen the drum playthrough of previous songs, but to actually witness it first hand was something otherworldy. It should be seen live. There are only a handful of dates left on the Tech Trek IV Tour so make sure to check it out!
